How to be Romantic
It’s the last day of February—the month for romance. But that doesn’t mean we all shouldn’t keep trying to be romantic for our loved ones. After all, we appreciate romantic gestures on our behalf, don’t we? So we should be willing to continue trying to be romantic ourselves.
But how can you be romantic without chocolates and hearts on every store shelf?
Just remember: it’s the little things that usually count the most. The simplest and most important way to reveal your romantic feelings for your loved one is to simply tell him or her. “I love you.”
But don’t just spout off the phrase as you’re heading out the door. Look your partner in the eyes and say with the words with deliberation. “I love you.” There is nothing more romantic that having someone say those three little words with intensity.
Try it. Say it. I love you.
That’s one simple way to be romantic.
How to be Romantic
There are plenty of ways to express your romantic side. Some of those ways will surprise you with their simplicity, but they are so appreciated by the recipients of the gestures. My husband demonstrated one of those ways every day this week.
You see, I started a new job after being out of work for over two years. It was quite a change to go from sleeping until eight o’clock every morning, putting on jeans and a T-shirt, and then focusing on my fiction writing and household activities to rising at six o’clock, dressing up, and then driving in rush hour traffic to a strange office filled with new co-workers. . .and having to think about business and technical topics!
Many of you have been in my position recently—or hope to be soon. I’m certainly not complaining about having to work for a living again, but the change has been a bit stressful. Suddenly I went from having sixteen hours a day to do what I needed and wanted to do to having less than five hours a day. It was a bit overwhelming. Fortunately my husband really stepped up.
When I arrived home from work that first day, he was in the kitchen, just finishing washing the dishes. That would have been a thoughtful enough gesture. But then I realized that he had done a load of laundry—start to finish, everything folded and put away. My heart immediately swelled with the recognition of his love and caring for me. He greeted me with a smile and kiss, completing his romantic gesture.
Sigh. As I said, that may seem like a simple sharing of chores. But to me, it was his recognition of my state of mind and his willingness to help me out from that first day. While he doesn’t do a load of laundry every day, I come home to a clean kitchen every evening. He’s made dinner a couple of times, swept the kitchen, or paid the bills. These are simple tasks but having them done before I get home has freed enough time for me to do some fiction writing or just relax. Doing these chores is a simple example of how to be romantic.
The most popular ways to express one's romantic nature on this special holiday have long been the gifts of a greeting card and/or a box of candy and/or roses. My own DH usually brings me all three, and this year was no exception. Lovely roses, delicious chocolates, and a romantic card were all waiting for me when I awoke this morning. A few kisses and whispers later, I'm settling in to work with a light heart and my mind is filled with thoughts of romance.
But are there other ways to be romantic on St. Valinetine's Day this year? There are almost as many ways as there are lovers in the world. The gift of time is always treasured, so schedule some alone time with your loved one and cuddle or just talk. Gifts of service are always appreciated, so do a load of laundry or wash the car. A night out is always a treat, so arrange a babysitter and make reservations at a romantic restaurant--or pack a picnic basket and head out to the park for an evening supper under the trees...unless you're in our snowy states this winter. In that case, take that picnic basket to the fireplace in your living room.
However you choose to be romantic this year, make sure its personal for your particular valentine. And remember that kisses and whispers are a great way to start the day. Here's hoping your day begins as sweetly.

Paranormal and fantasy romance stories are what I write. Novels and short stories are my prefered form, but you never know what else I might come up with on any given day. But I guarantee you that whatever it is will be fun, imaginative and just a little bit. . .hmm, out there I guess you'd say.
So are you looking for sexy spirits, wood nymphs with a taste for human love, or Fae guardians who will protect the hearts--and bodies--of their lovers at any cost? You'll find them all living within the words of my stories. You'll be entertained and intrigued and aroused a little. . .okay, you'll be aroused a lot.
Stop by often and let me know what you think about my website and my books. I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you, too!
